I had a lot of fun exploring scanography. Even though we use scan machines often to photocopy documents, I never thought scan machines could be an art tool. I am fascinated by this form of art since we are using the materials in our daily life to create artwork. It is more connected with reality. For example, in my work, I chose to use a banana to create the first series. And in my second series, I used magazines, a fridge magnet, a metro card, a cap. People don't need to be tech-savvy to engage in the art-making process. Therefore, scanography can reach out to a wider range of users to enjoy making art.
Here is the intro to my experiment
The 1st series: A banana
Material: banana
I scanned four pictures of a banana while eating it. My point is that although scanography presents the static state of objects, a series of different static states can depict a process.
The 2nd Series: New York City
Material: magazines, a fridge magnet, a metro card, a cap
I scanned some items to represent the images of new york city in my mind, like the new yorker magazines, which stand for the culture of this city, and the metro card, which stands for the busy city life all day round.
